HISTORY

Places and monuments that can be visited all year round

MÁRIA VALÉRIA BRIDGE (SK-HU) 1 km
Take a romantic walk between Esztergom and Štúrovo, especially atmospheric in the evening. The bridge offers the most beautiful view of the illuminated basilica. On the way from Esztergom to Štúrovo, we can also admire the sunset, which sets behind our town, painting the wonderful bridge golden. During the day, you can take great pictures of the Esztergom basilica, which can be photographed in all its glory from the bridge.

HISTORIC SZÉCSÉNYI SQUARE – ESZTERGOM, (HU) 2,5 km
The historical centre of Esztergom, surrounded by the classicist, romantic and baroque houses of the city’s former richest merchants, where stylish cafes await visitors all year round, and rich programs in the summer. Széchenyi Square also hosts Esztergom’s traditional Advent fair.

VIZIVÁROS – “WATER TOWN” – ESZTERGOM (HU) 2,2 km
The Water Town, the charming historical quarter of Esztergom, is located on the right bank of the Danube, below the Royal Castle. It was named after the hot springs in the area, and as you walk through its picturesque streets, you can enjoy the authentic atmosphere of a historic city.

ESZTERGOM BASILICA AND PANORAMIC CAFÉ (HU) 2,7 km
The Esztergom Basilica is the largest sacred building in Hungary; its monumentality is emphasised by its 17-meter-thick walls and the world’s largest altarpiece painted on a single canvas. Don’t miss a visit to the panoramic café on the upper floor, which offers a unique view of the Danube and the surrounding landscape.

ROYAL CASTLE (HU) 2,7 km
The castle complex, located near the Esztergom Basilica, hides the remains of a medieval castle, which was destroyed by the Turks in 1543. Here is the Castle Museum, which presents the dramatic history of the city during the Turkish wars.

VISEGRÁD (HU) 26,6 km
An important seat of the Hungarian kings,  Visegrád is famous for its royal palace and the remains of a medieval fortress. The castle complex also includes the mysterious 13th-century Solomon’s Tower, one of the largest and best-preserved Romanesque towers in Central Europe, from which a magnificent panorama of the Danube opens.

SZENTENDRE (HU) 42,5 km
Szentendre is a famous, picturesque, artistic city on the banks of the Danube, known for its narrow, cobbled streets, galleries, museums and unique cafes. Its colourful houses, Mediterranean-style squares and rich cultural life provide an ideal setting for a pleasant walk.

BUDAPEST (HU) 50 km
Budapest is easily accessible from Párkány by car and train. Its most famous attractions include the Fisherman’s Bastion, Buda Castle, Gellért Hill, Chain Bridge, Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Budapest Eye, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden and the Tropicarium

All year-round trails

VASKAPU (HU) 8 km
Its shelter offers a unique panorama of Párkány. The shelter also has a restaurant, and there is aslo a mini farm in the area.

BURDA (SK) 10 km
The smallest mountain in the country offers breathtaking views of the Danube Bend and the surrounding Pilis and Börzsöny from several viewpoints. Its hiking trails are easy to navigate even for less experienced tourists.

CANYON WITH WATERFALLS – RÁMSZAKADÉK (HU) 20 km, Dömös
A wild and romantic tour from Dömös, in rock gorges dotted with ladders, railings and waterfalls. Not far away are the Vadálló kövek and the Prédikálószék, one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the banks of the Danube.

HEART CHAKRA OF THE EARTH – DOBOGÓKŐ (HU) 22 km
Dobogókő is considered the beating heart of the Earth, a place of strong energy lines where people can draw regenerative energy.

All year-round trails

DANUBE CYCLE TRAIL (HU), the beginning of the route is 1 km from the hotel
The cycle route starts at the end of the Mária Valéria Bridge, then runs along the Danube through Erzsébet Park, where you can even relax in a pleasant green environment. On the way, we can stop at the Kőfej, which local legends attribute healing powers to, and at the end of the cycle route, you can treat yourself to the best heck in the area at the turning point of the Adri buffet. Please note that the buffet only accepts cash payments in Hungarian forints.

BURDA CYCLE TRAIL (SK) starts 1 km from the hotel
A simple, circular cycle route that starts on the cycle path on the embankment in Párkány and ends here upon returning. Along the route, you can ride along the banks of the Danube and at the foot of the Burda Mountains, via Garamkövesd to Helemba and back. The route is part of the Eurovelo 6 route.

“CATCH AND RELEASE” FISHING ON VADAS LAKE (SK) 300-500 m

You can fish on Vadas Lake all year round, as the lake does not freeze even in winter. No fishing license is required – you just need to buy a fishing ticket. Reservations: +421 905 529 641 / +421 908 795 646

NAGYBÖRZSÖNYI FOREST TRAIN (HU) 25 km
A fabulous little train that takes you from Nagybörzsöny to Nagyirtáspusztas through the heart of the Börzsöny through the serpentines at the summit. Conquering the mountain slopes with these small but powerful locomotives is a great experience for both young and old. In Nagyirtáspuszta we can connect to the Bezina Valley Forest Railway.

SUMMER AND WINTER BOBSLEIGH TRACK in VISEGRÁD (HU) 32 km
The summer track is a 700-meter long, winding, and exciting track. The second track – the rail track (alpine track) operates all year round, so it can be enjoyed in all seasons. In case of inclement weather, the bobsleds are protected by a plexiglass roof, so they can still be used.

PANTHERA ZOO (SK) 44 km
A family-friendly zoo where you can get up close and personal with both exotic and domestic animals in a pleasant environment. There are also bouncy castles for the little ones. Parking is also available next to the park.

CAPITAL ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDEN BUDAPEST (HU) 52 km
The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is one of the oldest zoos in the world, offering a unique combination of exotic animals, botanical beauty and historical atmosphere in the heart of Budapest.

ELEVEN PARK (HU) 58 km
Hungary’s largest indoor playground, offering over 3500 m² of entertainment for children aged 2-12, including trampolines, climbing frames and separate zones for younger children. An ideal choice if the weather is rainy or cold.

TROPICARIUM AND OCEANIUM (HU) 70 km
The biggest attraction is the 1.6 million liter shark aquarium with an 11-meter tunnel, which offers a unique insight into the colorful marine world of sharks, which we can admire directly above our heads. The tropicarium also features a tropical forest, where the sun shines and it rains at the same time, and where we can meet alligators, many exotic birds, various sea animals and even the smallest monkeys in the world.

EKART RING ESZTERGOM (HU) 2,5 km
The go-kart track is located on the minus third floor of the underground garage of the Grand Hotel Esztergom. The vehicles are equipped with batteries and electric drive. 6 go-karts are available for adults and 6 for juniors. The vehicles are equipped with adjustable seats, pedals, a hydraulic brake system, a multi-speed gearbox and seat belts. The go-karts can also be driven by people without a driving license. The Thermal wellness hotel’s own restaurant combines real home-made dishes with modern serving elements. The restaurant also offers a delicious daily lunch menu, which is primarily intended for lovers of classic gastronomy.
